Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about acupuncture, massage, light therapy, treatment expectations, insurance, and scheduling at Wú Wéi Wellness in Beaverton.

General Questions

Does acupunture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine — about the width of a human hair — and most patients feel little to no discomfort upon insertion. You may notice a mild sensation of pressure, warmth, or a slight tingle, which are signs the body is responding to treatment. Many patients actually fall asleep on the table!

What conditions do you treat?

We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological, and internal conditions. Visit our Conditions Treated page for a full list.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture stimulates the nervous system, improves circulation, and helps regulate pain and inflammatory responses. Treatment is tailored to your presentation and goals.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes. Acupuncture is a 3,000 year old form of medicine that has been used by more than 8 million Americans. The pins we use are sterile, single-use, solid and about the thickness of a human hair.

Treatment & Results

How many acupuncture visits will I need?

Treatment is cumulative and based on your condition and response to care. Most plans involve a series of visits with reassessment over time.

How quickly will I see results?

Some patients notice changes within the first few visits. More complex or chronic conditions may require a longer course of care.

Is acupuncture a one-time treatment?

Acupuncture is a cumulative therapy. Meaningful and sustained improvement typically requires a series of treatments, with care adjusted based on your response and functional outcomes.

Can I combine acupuncture and massage in one visit?

Yes! Many patients at our Beaverton clinic find that combining acupuncture and massage therapy in a single visit delivers faster, longer-lasting results. Together, these therapies work synergistically to relieve pain, reduce stress, and restore balance.

First Visit & Preparation

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being treated.

Do I need to eat beforehand?

Yes. Eating a light meal beforehand helps prevent lightheadedness and supports a more comfortable treatment. Do drink plenty of water before and after your treatment.

How long are appointments?

Initial visits typically last 90 minutes and include both evaluation and treatment. Follow-up visits are typically 60 minutes and are focused on progression of care.

Insurance & Payments

Do you take insurance?

We work with many insurance plans, as well as Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) and Workers’ Compensation claims. Coverage varies by provider and plan.

How do I know if my insurance covers acupuncture?

We recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify your benefits. Coverage varies by plan, including copays, deductibles, and visit limits.

What if I am out-of-network?

Payment is due at the time of service. We can provide a detailed receipt (Superbill) for potential reimbursement.

Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?

We do not accept traditional Medicare or Medicaid. Some Medicare Advantage plans may include acupuncture benefits depending on coverage.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, credit, and debit cards. Health savings accounts (HSA) and flexible spending accounts (FSA) are also accepted for qualifying services.

Scheduling & Logistics

How do I schedule and appointment?

Appointments can be scheduled online or by contacting our office.

What if I'm not sure which provider to book with?

We’re happy to help guide you based on your symptoms and insurance coverage. Our providers work collaboratively, so if you are seen by more than one provider, your care remains coordinated and consistent.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or appointment changes. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to a fee.
