Facial Contraindications

 

Unfortunately, not all treatments are for everyone. Please check our contraindications list to make sure you avoid disappointment.

The following contraindications apply to all facials:

​

  • Depilatory creams (wait 2 weeks)

  • Areas being treated with IPL or Laser (wait 2 weeks)

  • Areas being treated with Botox® or dermal fillers (wait 2 weeks)

  • Active Cancer or undergoing chemotherapy or immunotherapy

  • Open lesions or unhealed scars (wait 6 months)

​Enzymes with acids during a facial are not advisable if you have one of the following conditions:

  • Pregnancy

  • Lactating Mothers

  • Retin-A users must stop using Retin-A at least 1 week prior to treatments with acids

  • Accutane users must stop using Accutane at least 6 months prior to treatments with acids

  • Recent sunburn 

 

Microcurrent is not advisable if you have one of the following conditions: 

​

  • Under the age of 18

  • Use of Retin-A (discontinue use 3 weeks prior to treatment)

  • Pregnancy, but breastfeeding is safe 

  • Epilepsy or history of seizures

  • If you have a heart condition, microcurrent should only be performed after consultation and approval by your physician. This is an FDA requirement

  • If you have Diabetes, microcurrent should only be performed after consultation and approval by your physician. This is an FDA requirement

  • If you are being treated for cancer

  • Have a pacemaker, metal plates, or pins in your body 

  • Had Botox or fillers two weeks before a microcurrent facial 

  • Have had recent facial surgery or metal implants in your face

Dermplaning is not advisable if you have one of the following conditions: 

​

  • Active acne outbreaks dermaplaning is great for diminishing acne scars but should not be performed during active outbreaks

  • Cold sores should not be treated until lesions are healed

  • Diabetes (uncontrolled)

  • Bleeding/Clotting disorders

  • Undergoing chemotherapy or immune therapy

  • HIV/AIDS

High-Frequency is not advisable if you have one of the following conditions: 

​

  • Pregnancy

  • Epilepsy or history of seizures

  • An excessive number of dental fillings/braces ​

  • Metal pins & plates in the local area

  • An active implanted device such as a pacemaker or defibrillator

  • Cancer (all forms)

  • Acute infectious disease & fever

  • Nausea

  • Inflammatory disease

  • High blood pressure (uncontrolled)/Low blood pressure

  • Heart Disease

  • Bleeding/Clotting disorders

NOTE: All metal jewelry must be removed prior to the treatment due to the circulation of electrical current.
